Rats are social animals that prefer to live with other rats, which parallels their need for a big cage. They appreciate somewhere to hide (for example, a cardboard box with a bed of soft unscented material). Rats love to chew. Whether it’s on their house or on a block, it’s important that they have plenty to chew on to keep their teeth worn down. Along with a block, the best diet for a rat consists of formulated pellets and mixes. The occasional treat of nuts, seeds or cheese are good.
